  What the Questionnaire Measures  
 

The RDQ questionnaire assesses twelve critical skills that men and women need to develop to manage and sustain successful lifelong relationships. These are summarized in the table below.

Autonomy Your partner allows you plenty of freedom, respects your need for occasional privacy, provides support and respects differences. Patient, understanding, tolerant, supportive.

 

  Control Your partner shares influence and control with you. He/she does not try to run the show in the relationship nor boss you around. Positive, enthusiastic, attentive, accommodating.  
  Commitment Your partner shows commitment, acts as if he/she wants the relationship to succeed and compromises to make things work. Committed, hard-working, unselfish, adaptable.  
  Relatedness Your partner senses your feelings, shows interest in your concerns, acts like your best friend and makes you laugh. Warm, sensitive, understanding, fun-loving.  
  Responsibilities Your partner does equal share of housework, values your contribution to the relationship and gives you extra support when you ask for it. Conscientious, energetic, organised, supportive.  
  Communication Your partner expresses his/her feelings and emotions, listens to your views and opinions and gives you positive feedback. Considerate, thoughtful, chatty, sincere.  
  Agreements Your partner agrees with you about priorities and lifestyle choices – for example, money, friends, leisure, in-laws - and knows how to manage disagreements effectively. Willing to compromise and negotiate, adaptable.  
  Conflict Resolution Your partner accepts that it is okay to disagree, knows when to back off and forgives you quickly after arguments. Patient, tolerant, flexible, emotionally intelligent.  
  Attraction Your partner finds you physically attractive, compliments you about your looks and says you turn him/her on. Charming, engaging, flirtatious, reassuring.  
  Affection Your partner displays affection and appreciation, is thoughtful and considerate and keeps his/her promises. Demonstrative, considerate, appreciative.  
  Romance Your partner buys you presents, remembers important events and talks passionately about your relationship. Idealistic, amorous, romantic, passionate.  
  Sex Your partner enjoys having sex with you, is a good lover to you, communicates his/her desires and makes you feel loved. Interested, responsive, communicative, loving.
